There will be something for everyone in this two day class for willow weavers with some experience. You will learn how to weave and create a large round stake and strand basket with side handles either on or off a mould. This class is appropriate for many different skill levels, but please do not make this your first time weaving with willow...
Program for the workshop:
Less experienced weavers can expect to learn and practice techniques to make a traditional round stake and strand basket: the 4x4 base slath, twining, reinforced base weaving, bi-staking, 3 rod waling, slewing , 4 rod waling, pass through handles and rod or trac borders with follow ons.
Intermediate to advanced weavers can expect some modifications and additions to the regular programming: 4x4 base slath, twining with some nuanced technique, reinforced base weaving, bi-staking, 3 rod waling, slewing , 4 rod waling, rod borders or trac border with follow on (depending on preference), and foot border (time permitting). There will be a demonstration of roped handles, I will leave it up to the individual to decide if they want pass through handles (easier) or full roped handles (requires practice)-- regardless it is my hope and intention that people will get some experience practicing the roping techniques required -- even if they don't end up in the finished project.
We will not be discussing materials preparation on the onset of the class as this is not an introduction to stake and strand basketry, but as always, when time allows, we encourage questions of all types.
Options/ Dimensions: (after ordering you will be asked which you prefer)

ACCESSIBILITY DISCLAIMER We will be covering a lot of ground on these days. These are large baskets using large willow. This is not a dainty project, and if you have problems with your hands or wrists, please try a small one day basket before committing to this class. We will run other programming that is appropriate for those of you who have concerns about accessibility, so that you can get a feel for basketry willow. (For example: It isn't infrequent that folks will get small blisters when weaving a small-one day basket, it isn't infrequent that some people can struggle to manipulate the willow as necessary in small baskets).
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS A refund of 50% of the workshop fee will be issued when canceled 2 weeks or more before the workshop date. Material fees will be refunded in full. Cancellations beyond this point will be assessed on a case by case basis and are subject to administration charges. Classes cancelled by Lakeshore Willows will be refunded in full.
