About the Owner Johnny Suderman

Johnny is a basketmaker/teacher, willow grower, worker, and peasant farmer at heart. He can be found tending willow coppice, weaving baskets, and harvesting willow. Since 2018, he has been exploring this heritage craft and spreading his love for basketry. He started his own willow patch in 2022, and is now owner/operator of Lakeshore Willows (est 2007 by Lene Rasmussen).

Descendant of English and German Mennonite settler-ancestors, Johnny was born in Brantford, Ontario, and currently resides in the village of "Glen Morris, Ontario" (Haldimand Tract, Treaty 4 territory) along the Grand River (also referred to as the Willow River by the Mohawk "O:se Kenhionhata:tie").
