a Tatza Basket / Woven Knot Tray - January 31st, 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00

This half day, 4 hour class is open to adults with no previous weaving experience.

This openwork tray displays stunning geometry as well as the natural beauty of willow. Lined with linen, these trays make great serving trays for bread, or are equally at home adorning your wall, displaying your handiwork.

Unlike many other types of baskets made with willow, these trays can be made with fresh cut/foraged willows without losing their integrity. This makes this form both functional, beautiful---and practical for those who do not have access to equipment necessary for soaking willow. The basket can be made with different variations and during the class we will focus on a variation using 6 sets of rods. The rods are assembled, bent into place and then pulled to create a sturdy basket.

Weaving can be very physical, and if you have issues with your hands/arms/wrists/back this may prove challenging. If you are new to weaving you may need to stay a bit longer to pull the basket in tighter, or bring it home with you to finish.

There will be options for adding more than one colour willow to your baskets. Additional willow for repeating your basket can be made available at request using the contact form, or during your checkout in the comments.

All tools needed are provided by the instructor.

The finished basket will be approximately 12" in diameter but can be left larger if you choose.

ACCESSIBILITY DISCLAIMER Weaving willow can be quite hard on the hands and wrists, as we are essentially weaving with wood. If you have pre-existing problems with your hands/wrists/arms/back, this class could prove challenging to you. Most baskets require moderate hand strength to weave properly. It is frequent that people mention having sore hands afterwards, and that people end up with a blister here or there (or here AND there!). If you have concerns but you're still keen feel free to reach out via the contact page.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS  A refund of 50% of the workshop fee and 100% of materials fee will be issued when canceled 2 weeks or more before the workshop date.  Less than two weeks before the workshop, tickets will be considered transferrable to another party, but non-refundable. If for any reason we need to cancel the class, 100% of workshop and materials fees will be refunded to you.

TAXES  HST (13%) will be added to the total fee at checkout.
