a Beginner Stanislav Basket Workshop (2 day course March 29, 30)

This workshop is for beginner weavers, with no or little experience weaving.

This unique contemporary basket design was first introduced by master polish basketmaker Stanislav Dzuibak at "the big Willow and Basketry Day" at Eva Seidenfaden's estate Vissinggaard in Denmark. These baskets are characterized by their asymmetrical top edge, and often feature unique branch handles for added interest.

In this course you will learn about building round bases, pairing, inserting and pricking up stakes, three rod wale, fill weaves, and the asymmetrical weave at the top of the basket that is woven from the stakes themselves. The last stakes standing will integrate into our handle holding it into place.

There is something for new beginners and those who have some experience.

If you have the following basketry tools feel free to bring them, otherwise tools are available to borrow during the class.
– Awl (1/2″ thick for a main awl or 1/4″ for smaller work)
– Sharp pruners
– Rapping iron
– Sharp knife (Ie. an opinel or mora)
– Measuring tape

Baskets will. be approx 10”-11” across and 12’’ high. Feel free to bring your own handle if you want, otherwise a selection will be provided. The handle needs to be approx 1.25” in diameter, and 16” long so there is excess to trim.

This course is suitable for adults.

This workshop will be held at Glen Morris Centennial Hall (17 Dunbar Street, Glen Morris). Class is March 29, and 30th from 9:00-5:00 both days.

Please bring indoor shoes or slippers to ensure we keep the indoor space clean. Please dress comfortably and bring your own lunches.

Maximum of 8 students per workshop.
