In this half or one day workshop for beginners, you can learn how to weave "Grow-Through plant supports" and an "Obelisk" out of willow that can be used to support peonies or other plants. Participants will be able to take home their work. All materials and tools needed to complete the work are included. Additional materials kits can be made available to make more garden structures if you want to make more at home.
Participants can choose one or both of the following:
In the morning we will learn how to make some round 18" wide "Grow-Through" supports that work well for supporting peonies and other plants that need a little something to lean on. Put in place before the plants get large, this is a simple way to add sustainable functional flair to your garden, while learning new skills that you can make use of through the years.
In the afternoon we will learn how to make some round 18" wide and 5.5' tall Obelisks that work well for a support for vine's and plants that need to grow (peonies, beans etc, some flowering vines etc). These Obelisks look nice as decor with lights strung on them in any season.
Participants can choose one or both workshops, (10% discount offered to participants who want to take both classes-automatically applied at checkout).
All materials used are grown at our farms. We will be using coppiced willow that is harvested on an annual cycle. Cuttings for planting your own material are also made available as one of our offerings. (order cut off is end of February) see "Varieties" Tab and "Shop" Tab click "Cuttings" or ask about this at the workshop.

ACCESSIBILITY DISCLAIMER Weaving willow can be quite hard on the hands and wrists, as we are essentially weaving with wood. If you have pre-existing problems with your hands/wrists/arms/back, this class could prove challenging to you. Most baskets require moderate hand strength to weave properly. It is frequent that people mention having sore hands afterwards, and that people end up with a blister here or there (or here AND there!). If you have concerns but you're still keen feel free to reach out via the contact page.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS A refund of 50% of the workshop fee and 100% of materials fee will be issued when canceled 2 weeks or more before the workshop date. Less than two weeks before the workshop, tickets will be considered transferrable to another party, but non-refundable. If for any reason we need to cancel the class, 100% of workshop and materials fees will be refunded to you.
TAXES HST (13%) will be added to the total fee at checkout.Opt-in to our eNewsletter to receive updates about our willow weaving products, workshops, and events.
